Characters

The ‘Harry Potter’ books contain so many characters that it is impossible to list them all. Here are the more main characters in the books.

Harry Potter: Marked from birth by Lord Voldemort, Harry must be the one to destroy him. ( Hogwarts Student) Orphan.

Ron Weasley: Harry’s best friend. Journeys with Harry to find the horcruxes. Destroys the locket horcrux. (Hogwarts Student)

Hermione Granger: Harry’s best friend. Journeys with Harry to find the horcruxes. Smartest in Harry’s year. (Hogwarts Student)

Lord Voldemort: The most feared wizard of all time. The main evil in the books. Harry must destroy him by destroying his horcruxes ( pieces of a soul which are stored in objects). Also known as Tom Riddle.

Albus Dumbledore: Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards. Friend and mentor to Harry. Knows the key to destroying Voldemort. Has a very mysterious past.

Sirius Black: Harry’s Godfather. Member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Remus Lupin: Werewolf. Member of the Order of the Pheonix.

Minerva McGonagall: Transfiguration teacher. Head of Gryffindor House. Member of the Order of the Pheonix.

Severus Snape: Potions Master. Later Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Member of the Order of the Pheonix. Kills Albus Dumbledore. Also a Death Eater.

Nymphadora Tonks: Married to Remus Lupin. Auror. Member of the Order of the Pheonix.

Ginny Weasley: Harry’s girlfriend. Ron’s sister. Member of the DA. (Hogwarts Student)

Neville Longbottom: Member of the DA. Harry’s friend. (Hogwarts Student)

Luna Lovegood: Member of the DA. Harry’s friend. (Hogwarts Student)

Bathilda Bagshot: Auothor of a history of magic. Later possesed by Voldemort’s snake.

Dean Thomas: Member of the DA. Harry’s friend. (Hogwarts Student)

Fred and Goerge Weasley: Members of the DA. Harry’s friends. Brothers of Ron. Twins. (Hogwarts Students)

Cornelius Fudge: Minister for Magic for five books. Refuses to believe that Voldemort is back.

Kingsley Shacklebolt: Member of the Order of the Pheonix. Auror.

Arthur Weasley: Ron’s dad.

Molly Weasley: Ron’s mum. Treats Harry like a son.

Bill Weasley: Ron’s oldest brother. Member of the Order of the Pheonix.

Charlie Weasley: Ron’s brother. Member of the Order of the Pheonix.

Percy Weasley: Ron’s brother. Hates his family and works for the Ministry of magic.

Draco Malfoy: Harry’s enemy. Becomes a Death Eater. Tries to kill Albus Dumbledore. (Hogwarts Student)

Lucious Malfoy: Draco Malfoy’s father. Death Eater.

Death Eaters: The Servants of Lord Voldemort.

Rubeus Hagrid: Harry’s friend and gamekeeper at Hogwarts. Half Giant.

The Dursleys: The muggle family Harry lives with over the summer.

Peter Pettigrew: Death Eater. Betrayed Harry’s parents.

Bellatrix Lestrange: Death Eater. Insane. Tortured Neville Longbottom’s parents to insanity.

Dobby: House- elf. Harry’s friend.

Kreacher: House- elf.

Horace Slughorn: Potions Master. Holds a crucial memory of how to destroy Voldemort.

Sybil Trelawney: Divination Teacher. She makes the prophecey which makes Voldemort hunt down Harry.

Filius Flitwick: Charms Teacher. Member of the Order of the Pheonix

Grawp: Hagrid’s Giant half-brother.

Quirinus Quirrel: Defence against the dark arts teacher. Possessed by Voldemort

Gilderoy Lockheart: Defence against the dark arts teacher.

Dementors: Creatures that bring despair.
